How international recruitment works
The steps are the same as in any recruitment. The difference is where we search and what happens after you have chosen a candidate.
Role profile
We go through the role and which language and experience requirements are really needed.
Search
We search our international pool and networks in Sweden and abroad.
Selection
We interview, check references and present three to four shortlisted candidates.
Hiring
If the candidate needs a work permit, it must be granted before they start working.
Candidates already in Sweden
Many international graduates already live here and have the right to work. That makes hiring faster than if the person has to relocate.
Work permits
Candidates from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland usually need a work permit. Salary and terms must be at least at the level of the collective agreement or what is customary in the industry, and insurance must apply from the first day.
Hiring a consultant from abroad
If you want to try before you hire, you can bring in the candidate as a consultant. The consultant is employed by us, with a collective agreement and insurance in place. If the consultant needs a work permit, we take care of the process.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the candidate need to speak Swedish?
- Not always. Many roles work in English. We go through the language requirements with you when we write the role profile.
- How long does a Swedish work permit take?
- For highly qualified workers, the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) guarantees a processing time of no more than 30 days, and almost every role we fill falls into that category. Other categories take longer.
- Who applies for the work permit?
- The employee applies, but the employer first creates an offer of employment with the Swedish Migration Agency.
